The attention-grabbing Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness posed for an extensive photo shoot, showing off its one of a kind screen. Transparent screens that have so far been the stuff of concept renderings are now coming to a store near you.

We’ve seen the concepts (take the Nokia Morph for example), but at best we see them in some new techno-thriller. With the LG GD900 Crystal, LG also used transparency as a design element but it simply used existing technology in a creative way. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness on the other hand borrows technology from the future.

The XPERIA Pureness promises to bring some fresh blood and luxury into the XPERIA brand. With its transparent screen and sleek, minimalistic design, it’s set to tackle luxury phones, while its XPERIA X2 and X3 cousins take aim at high-end have-it-all phones.

This is the first attempt and the screen of the XPERIA Pureness has some limitations – the screen is small and is only monochrome. It’s not all bad however, from the photos it seems that it has pretty good contrast and viewing angles. We don’t know what the screen resolution is and how it fares under direct sunlight is also a mystery.

In the next iteration, the problem of size will probably be solved and figuring out how to add color support shouldn’t be too hard, should it? From there, adding touch input capabilities is a piece of cake, since the technology has been around for quite a while now. Oops, sorry! We got carried away daydreaming, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness is expected to launch in November for a rumored posh price of 699 euro (1000 dollars).

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 gets official, holds no surprises

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 received its official announcement today. Boasting Windows Mobile 6.5 and relying heavily on the X Panels UI, the XPERIA X2 flaunts an 8 megapixel camera and a 3.2-inch touchscreen.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 was eagerly expected and finally has its moment. The new XPERIA will come directly with Windows Mobile 6.5 on board with the XPERIA panels integrated into the user interface. The long rumored 3.5-inch OLED screen turns to be false, as the X2 has a 3.2-inch WVGA TFT one.

The rest of the specs include full sliding QWERTY keyboard, 8.1 megapixel camera with VGA@30fps recording and LED flash, all sorts of connectivity options (HSDPA, Wi-Fi with DLNA, GPS, Bluetooth) including a 3.5mm audio jack and TV-out (cable bundled in the box), stereo speakers and a microSD card slot (4GB card in the package).

The CPU still remains unknown, while the memory is crystal clear – 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM and 110 megabytes of user storage. The XPERIA X2 also comes with XviD video support.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 will hit the shelves sometime in early Q4 this year. We suppose the launch will be in October, considering the recent Microsoft’s announcement of the Windows Mobile 6.5 availability. There is no word on pricing yet.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 to be announced officially next week

The long sought-after Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 is finally ready to make an official appearance. No more teasing, we are about to see its true specs at last and will do so sometime next week. That will come in handy to finally confirm (or disprove) the initial rumor of 3.5″ WVGA OLED.

The first rumors for CPU speed and RAM are probably false, so we are not quite sure what to believe about the touchscreen display. What is certain of the XPERIA X2 feature set is the looks, the Windows Mobile 6.5 with the X-Panels plug-in and the QWERTY keyboard. The 8 megapixel autofocus snapper with LED flash also sounds exciting and is a major boost from the XPERIA X1. There are some unconfirmed but plausible rumored specs – roomy internal memory, GPS and PS3 remote play.

If “next week” means Monday, August 31st, then Sony Ericsson will beat the traffic with the XPERIA X2 announcement – Nokia World is coming September 2nd and we guess some pretty hot stuff will be unveiled there too. So Sony Sony Ericsson better put the hype they’ve built up to good use as the company needs to swiftly change its fortunes. So far rumor has it that it’ll be just the XPERIA X2 on this announcement, which means we’ll have to wait a while longer for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3, formerly known as Rachael.
